Samy Vellu - letting go is ultimate sacrifice
MIC President Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu is under siege after failing to stop one of his delegates from suggesting that a garland of slippers be given as a gift to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Samy Vellu, in statements issued after the slipper issue was highlighted by Utusan Malaysia, said he had ordered the delegate to cease talking about Tun M in such deragotary tone during last weekend's MIC annual assembly. Yesterday, he said he had taken disciplinary action on the delegate, after he had been lambasted left, right and centre. He would have been spared the strong public criticisms if he had taken disciplinary action before the matter was made public. It seems that his action came a little too late. Everyone is now waiting for his next move - quit as suggested by some quarters, or stay on and lead the party he had helmed since 1981. It's been suggested that Samy Vellu may need to sacrifice himself to save the party he loved so much. Samy Vellu won't quit on the strength of the slipper issue but many believe that now is as good a time to quit as ever.

Good morning Dato,
It's unfortunate for Samy Vellu because this time his trick is exposed. He had paid the delegate Muniandy to speak up at the assembly. After that he took the delegate to task. If the newspapers had not played up the issue, you think he'll act on the delegate? Fat chance lah Dato! Samy should step down. Not becuse of the slipper issue but because his shelf life is over. Expired! He should instead start blogging, or go back to forming a drama company and staging plays in estates!
KL boy
Samy Vellu is the idiot to be blamed. He orchestrated the distasteful and digraceful incident with his provocative speech and comment on TDM. The delegates were just dancing to his tune.
UMNO, if it still has any more respect for the statesman who has made great contribution to Malaysia, must demand for an official apology from Samy Vellu.
Samy Vellu must be kicked out from MIC/BN if he fails to do so.
The delegate was merely doing what Mr Samyvelu excels at, treating Dr Mahathir 'in derogatory tones'.
The logic of MIC's rationale for existence was explained with precision by Dr Mahathir, who said MIC doesn't represent any community and is beholden to UMNO to win seats.
MIC of course is not capable of such precision or genius. Neither is it good advertisemnet for democracy, ethics or 1Sekolah.
