Edge online version to get more traffic?

ASSALAMUALAIKUM and Salam sejahtera! I got a lot of questions asking about the suspension of the Edge. Many friends in the media industry talk extensively about the suspension too. Suspending a publication will always invite scrutiny. Sometimes, it's not a question of right or wrong. Rather, it is a question of whose judging, depending on which side of the divide are you. Then again, the timing of the suspension is also subject to discussions. Why now? Why not earlier? Will there be any more suspension? Will it stop at suspension? Those who practise the trade also have their views. There are those who believe that the Edge has down what a newspaper is tasked to do - to inform, educate, entertain. In some instances, also to expose. Every newspaper in the country, has, at some time or other, exposed wrongdoings, shortcomings and a host of other misdemeanours. Be they from the establishment or elsewhere. There are also media practitioners who may look at the Edge with suspicion. They may feel that such expose by the Edge may be too much and may even affect national security etc. Like I said, it's not a question of who's right or wrong. It's a question of who's judging. Then again, by the norms of traditional journalism, the Edge could very well have done what they feel to be correct and expected. The newspaper made some very strong allegations. And they are prepared to stick to their belief. I reckon suspending the Edge would not stop the group from publishing more stories online. All newspapers have their online versions. All newspapers have difficulty in monetising their online versions. I suspect, the Edge may capitalise on the suspension of its print version to further strengthen its online version editorially and revenue wise. I really don't know but I won't discount that possibility. Three months suspension would give the online Edge a boost, I think.

Sdra Manan Buyong,

TQ for the cmment and advice. The photo is an old one. It's a picture of me in Gaza, wearing a fray jacket and using an Arafat scarce to keep out the cold. I'll look for another pic top..
